One day in the summer of 2024, a dispatcher from Utah and a K9 officer from a small town in Oklahoma matched on Facebook Dating. In today’s world, online connections are common—but what happened next was nothing short of fate.

Facebook Dating is designed to match people within a set distance—typically within a reasonable radius of your location. Yet somehow, despite being states apart, David and Meghan found each other. At the time, both had nearly given up on dating apps. Meghan was in her “do it for the plot” phase, determined to prove how terrible dating apps could be. (Ask to read her coffee table book 😉.) But then, they matched, and everything changed.

In the world of first responders, relationships between officers and dispatchers aren’t uncommon. But finding one another across state lines? That was rare. Initially, Meghan told David she worked in a call center—she was tired of telling people her real job and constantly answering, “Wow! What’s your craziest story?” David, however, was upfront, sharing that he was a police officer… to which Meghan responded, “Well, I guess I should mention the call center I work at is 911.”

While the distance seemed daunting (Meghan has a text to her best friend saying, “I’m talking to this guy in Oklahoma, so obviously it will never go anywhere”), David simply said, “What could it hurt to keep talking?” Little did he know, that one conversation would lead to forever.

As they talked, Meghan and David discovered just how much they had in common. They laughed, shared stories, and soon, they wanted to meet in person. Taking a leap of faith, Meghan booked a flight to Tulsa, Oklahoma. She told almost no one because she didn’t want to be talked out of it—she knew it was a little crazy. (But don’t even worry, she and her best friend built a file, including what photo of her to put on the news… just in case she was kidnapped.) Nervous but excited, she stepped into the small airport, and when David saw her for the first time, he knew—she was the one.

Waiting for her, David held a bouquet of flowers—something Meghan had once mentioned she’d never received on a date before. Over the next few days, David showed her around Oklahoma, trying (and failing) to convince her that the state wasn’t flat. But what he did manage to do was win her heart. By the end of the trip, David asked Meghan to be his girlfriend, and without hesitation, she said yes.

Even after Meghan returned home to Utah, their connection only grew stronger. They spent hours dreaming about their future together, talking about life, love, and the adventures ahead. Eventually, Meghan made the bold decision to move to Oklahoma, knowing her heart belonged with David.

Then, on November 22, 2024, their story took its most beautiful turn yet. As they rode horseback through the mountains of Utah, David nervously rehearsed his proposal in his head. But when the moment came, all he could manage to say was, “Will you make me happy?” With happy tears in his eyes, he watched as Meghan said, “Yes!”—sealing their forever.
